Pickett 101-C Circular Slide Rule. Nearly New in Box. Very Nice

Pickett 101-C Circular Slide Rule. The slide rule is in nearly-new condition, with very minor scratches visible only on very close inspection. The faux leather case is in very good condition, with a very small tear on the front flap. The instructions are included, and are in very good-to-excellent condition. The box is in very good condition, with some minor dings, a handwritten price on the front (3.50), and a staple on the back -- the staple appears to be original, but possibly has been added.

The box has a built-in cardboard mounting stand on the reverse. The three cursors all move very smoothly. The cursors each have a small round burr (I'm not sure that's the right word) on the base. This is not a crack or defect, but is simply an artifact from the plastic injection molding process by which they were manufactured.

The Pickett 101-C is a surprisingly powerful slide rule for its small size. It has fifteen scales, plus a sixteenth "scale" showing fractional conversions. Two cursor arms on the obverse, coupled by a simple clutch mechanism, allow it to use a single C scale in place of separate C and D scales, saving space. The A scale is denominated both in decimals and fractions.

There are log-log and trig scales. The cursors are marked to correspond to the scales on the disc C, CI, etc.

An amazing amount of computing power is packed into a small slide rule. The Pickett 101-C was modeled after the very successful Gilson Midget slide rule. There are both similarities and differences between them.

Mechanically, the Pickett is perhaps a little sturdier than the Gilson. Which scale layout to prefer is a matter of individual choice. No purchaser has ever reported damage to a slide rule in transit. Please ask if there are any questions. The item "Pickett 101-C Circular Slide Rule.
